Advanced Will Not Stand By Product

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Purchased wheel spacers, $40 and were professionally installed. Car shook horribly with spacers and new tires. Tire Dealer after two hours unable to balance wheels with spacers but were successful without spacers. Brought back to Advanced Auto 3 days after sale and asked for refund or store credit. They refused to offer either because, 'they could not resell product'. So, they are OK selling bad products and losing customers...was an ez fix for them, but did not take the high road. Further, Manager did not have dignity to tell me this and in his stead had a store clerk who had went in the back to explain, wimp! Not cool. Looks like I'll be shopping at Discount or NAPA...if they treat all customers like this, they'll out of biz soon enough, cool for me, bad for their workers.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

my wife had a battery installed by the atore a year ago. It has been starting slow for a few weeks now but no complete discharge.

I went back to the store to see about warranty because something is wrong. My load tester is broken so i figuted they offred the testing service, so let them do it. I had them hook up to the car and they tested the battery. They then said he test fed them a poor charge report.

We then proceeded to test the charging system and the computer fed them a test result saying nothing was wrong with the charging system. It load tested with 340cca on a 600cca battery. The voltage was 12.4 off and 14.3 running no matter what accesories were on.I told him evenif the voltage was good, it could still have a bad cell causing the cca to be low. They claimed the computer test result told them they couldnt start the warranty process.

He said all he could do was take the battery and put it on his charger and try to fully charge it. The car has run for a year on this battery. If it hasnt fully charged yet, there is a problem. He did not check thw water levels, or test with a hydrometer.

I used to go to these part stores a lot, and they knew what they were talking about. They only hire who is cheap anymore. I am a mechanic by career. This scenario played out horrible.

Since the computer doesnt tell them something, they won't do anything about it. That's a BS excuse. Why not just say" i don't know what else to do besides what the computer tells me, let me call my manager. I asked abouy the water issues, and he said its a maintanance free battery.

I said see the caps, it isn't incapable of maintanance. Maintanance free batteries are sealed.

This is why i dont normally let anyone touch my vehicles. Thrre ate no mechanics anymore, just part replacers, if the computer tells them to.

Actually testing the acid is not even allowed by part corporations. Too much liability.

The electronic testers in fact DO recognize it as an issue and mark it bad due to low voltage, but only the external testers inside the stoee, not the portable units. And as a mechanic you already know that alternators can also be intermittent when first going bad. And that any time there is a charge issue the proper was is to disconnect the cables and use an external charger on slow charge to bring the battery up to 100%. You also know that batteries are usually killed by heat.

Both ambient temperature and internal temperature under a charge load.

Unfortunately word of mouth is worth zero these days when it comes to batteries.

All the battery manufacturers figured out that over 60% of all warranted batteries were coming back in tiptop shape and implemented testing requirements to stop it. Not the part stores.

Placed an order at 10:00AM, so my wife would not have to go in and search around for the items needed. She went to pick them up at 6:00PM and the whole shop reeked of marijuana, and the order wasn't ready. Not a single item. She had to wait 20 minutes for the dazed and confused employee to collect the items that were not even correct. She had to return 2 items that they had mistakenly given her. Very disappointed, I had used this service several time at other big box stores without a hitch.

Advance Auto Parts - Warranty Review from Frederick, Maryland

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Bought a battery with a two year warranty from Advanced and had it installed there. About 9 months later the car wouldn't start. Had the car towed to my mechanic where I was told that the battery wasn't holding a charge. The alternator and starter tested fine. Took the car back to Advanced with my receipt in order to get a replacement battery. The associate "tested" the battery and claimed it was fine. He said there must be something wrong with the starter or alternator. I explained that the mechanic had already looked at it that the starter and alternator were fine. He refused to replace the battery even though it was within the warranty period. He charged the battery and sent me on my way. Three months later the car stalled out again for the same reason. I took it back to Advanced and was still refused a new battery. What good is having a warranty if the company won't honor it? I've heard numerous other consumers complain about this battery scam at various Advanced Auto locations. Many people have complained that they sell used batteries don't have fully functioning cells. I don't understand how this is being permitted to continuously happen consumers of this business. What can we do to keep this business from ripping people off?

The same things is still happening and they will say it is your alternator or starter and in order for them to replace the battery you have to go get proof from a mechanic or your local service shop and come back with paper work reading that battery is low ( WHICH IS WHAT ADVANCE DEEMS AS STILL A GOOD BATTER) or in other words DEAD. Then after paying an outside mechanic about $45 then they will finally maybe fix your battery.

Guest

As an Advanced employee, our warranties are basically ***. I've ran into this problem numerous time while trying to warranty out defective batteries and what happens is that our battery testers will tell us if the battery is good or bad, and unless it tells us that it is bad we cannot return it or warranty them out.

The reason for this being is that we need a specific, unique code from the tester that we have to enter into the computer to warranty it out, without the code we can't do anything. I'll be honest, NAPA or AutoZone have the best battery plans and if you need a new battery that will last, I suggest one of them, or even Walmart.

Guest

First off, the battery manufacturers set the rules on battery warranty. Not the stores.

Most stores don't know how to test a battery for a slow death issue. The testers are good, but not perfect. It doesn't matter where you buy it you'll run into the same problem if the employee doesn't know how to do a drain test. And if you're impatient and he does know then he can't do it and can't confirm a bad battery outside what the OTC machine tells him.

Next time ask them to do the fast charge and leave on the floor in the store.

When they check it with the handheld tester the next day they are looking for how much charge was lost. Over 15% and they should warranty it.

Incompetent store associates and rude upper management cost me thousands in repairs... Belmont, NC

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Completely ridiculous.

I DROVE (under its own power) my car to Advance Auto Parts in Belmont, NC to have the battery and alternator checked.

Younger associate came out to check. While attempting to jump the car he crossed the jumper cables and fried the internal computer. I went thru the chain of command.. Store manager that said it was impossible because his associates had "training" on how to do it. Guess they are all perfect and walk on water as well.

Was then given an 800 number to call.. after the run around from the service rep, they called someone and 2 min later without seeing any dealership repair notes said they weren't responsible.

The district manager finally got involved. She (Leslie White)

requested the dealership invoices and repair notes. In no time at all she replied that "I have reviewed the invoice and the case notes on the vehicle. Due to the fact that the dealership states the ECM was damaged due to reverse jumpstart we are not liable for the damages."

She also questioned the qualifications of the dealership technicians. Apparently she thinks that since Advance will hire anyone regardless of their ability to do the job, half way train them and won't stand behind their products or services, that all other compaines do as well.

The dealership provided the qualifications of their technicians:

"is a Mitsubishi Certified Master Tech, the highest qualification you can achieve and top tier mechanic for Mitsubishi North America. He is more than qualified to make the determination that he made and we stand by his diagnosis and repair. This diagram means nothing, especially since the “ASE Certified tech” was never under the hood of your vehicle. The ECM was burned and that was a DIRECT RESULT of being jumped backwards."

I responded and asked why they weren't responsible since it was their associate that jump started the car and crossed the cables.

That was 2 weeks ago and she hasn't responded to email or returned any of the phone calls I made or from other complaints filed with the NC DOJ consumer protection department.

Looks like I'll be calling the local news station next which loves the opportunity to expose consumer affair issues.

After I'm finished smiling on camara in their parking lot, I'll have no choice but to take this to small claims court.

you're a cheap *** and deserve it. who goes to an auto parts chain to diagnose problems?

Guest

That's new. What kind of *** electrical system is Mitsubishi putting out.

I've seen numerous people cross jumper cables and have never seen anything worse than blown fuses and a ruined battery and most times nothing more than a quick spark. Also, as the car owner requesting a Jumpstart from anyone, it is your responsibility first to ensure proper hookup. It's your freaking car. Don't you want to know more than a caveman with a computer.

Mm, insert stick and make go...

In order for it to fry your computer your fuses have to fail to blow, the fuse able link wires that automatically burn through at minor heat variances would have to impervious, and then after all that, it would finally make it to the computer.

There is no direct line. I've sent car grounded to the earth via jack stands get struck by lightning and the computer was the only part of the electrical system still good.

HORRIBLE SERVICE AT ADVANCE AUTO PARTS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a new SILVER Battery in October 2014, Online, which came with a 2-yr warranty. Lately, every time I went to start my car the battery was dead. I decided to take use the 2-YR Warranty to have them replace the battery. The General Manager tried to tell me that I had an Alternator problem, which was impossible because I had just had my car serviced by my mechanic. The man insisted that the battery was fine, but I persisted. It should be noted that with very little diagnostics, he was blowing me off. He finally decided to do the replacement. We went back in the store, and lo and behold, I was not in their system, so the General Manager decided that I was never at his location because he could not locate me in his system. He kept asking me at what store did I get the battery, and I kept telling him it was at his location. He all but called me a liar! I had to drive 10 miles back home to print the online receipt. Well, there I was in his system, without my phone number reflected as ALL ZEROS! There was NO APOLOGY for the disgraceful way in which I was treated! If I could rate them as a big fat ZERO I would! Buyer beware! Steer clear from this operation, because you will be a very unsatisfied customer. They obviously do not want to take responsibility for their ineptness. They are the worst. I will never purchase anything from them again! They are NOT customer-centric, and their service is below substandard. I spent over $120 on that battery! They treat orders placed online as if they do not exist.

It's a computer software problem. It's difficult to navigate and needs changed asap.

And just because your mechanic checked it out doesn't make it impoissible to be something else.

If the battery checked out good then it's good. I'm sure you've remedied the problem by now and found that it was in fact something else.

Guest

There is no way to look up online purchases from in store, even if the purchase was picked up in that store, flawed system? Maybe, but if there's no way to look it up in the system that doesn't make the employee idiots. People have forgotten the art of keeping receipts on items that have warranties.

Guest

It is a company problem to not be able to look up online orders, but the fact is that online orders are actually handled by a completely different company. Strange, I know.

But for us guys behind the counter, there truly isn't anything I can do for you without the order number.

Guest

I received a partial refund from Advance Auto Parts in the amount of $120, something I did not expect. I am still pretty angry, but at least, they did something right and decent for a change!

In my opinion, refunding me some money will not make up for the waste of my time, in that I missed the window to get the prescription for my pain killers filled.

It will never make up for the humiliation suffered, and does not solve the disconnect between online orders and store processes, but that is their problem.

I most certainly will not give them an opportunity to treat me shabbily ever again!

Have to wait 30 minutes to receive my core charge!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Ordered a battery online. Went to the Harvard IL store to pick it up.

They completed the transaction without realizing I had the old one (core) with me. I asked them to refund my prepaid $20 core charge. I was told by the manager (Jose) that I would have to wait 30 minutes for their system to update before I could get my $20. I could hardly believe that he was telling me I would have to come back later to get my $20!

This is the second issue I've had with this store, I will never shop at Advance Auto Parts again! Not to mention most of their staff don't know anything about cars, yet they feel they can offer advice.

Why wouldnt you tell then you had your core while doing the transaction? If there's not a giant *** battery on the counter, how could they know?

Is 20 mins detrimental to get $20 loaded back onto a credit card that you'll likely have to wait 24 hrs to access anyways because of the average bank hold? Did you leave a really *** review on your bank?

Bad customer service or bad customer? Hmm..

You're an ***. The people in the store have no control over what you're complaining about.

online order returns are not instantaneous. not like with a regular in store receipt.

just like any other online retailer you do have to wait for the system to update. not only on our end but through your financial institution as well.

Policy vs Staff

As a longtime customer with Advance Auto Parts I have always received good customer service, assistance and explanation but there is one location in Hampton, VA that I wish I could avoid at all cost but due to the close proximity of my home it’s the most reasonable to visit. Advance Auto Parts has the best warranties on their parts and on the particular part I wanted to return it held a lifetime warranty. I went to the store location to have the part tested but the testing equipment was not working. The store clerk told me that it was not her problem and she would not honor my lifetime guarantee warranty. After a lengthy exchange the store clerk told me to take the part to the nearest auto part store that could print a report and I could bring it back for the exchange. I did just that within 30 minutes and was denied. The clerks attitude was horrible. I then simply decided to drive 20 miles out to the next Advance Auto Parts store. At the Newport News location I was greeted and serviced very well and quickly along with the service I received a sincere apology from the staff at the Newport News store as they often have customers come into their store with the same complaints about the same clerk.
